Why do I want to attend culinary school??

Many people might think that my intentions of going to cooking school is to become a chef, but the truth is "No." I don't think I'm cut out for the long tedious hours of hard labor. So why cooking school? Wouldn't it just be a waste of time and money? This is why I decided to take a course that could eventually act as a bridge program to cooking school. I need to satisfy my burning desire to attend an intensive cooking program and see if I could find the answer of why I feel the need to go that path.

I guess my love for food goes beyond eating. I also want to learn how food is made and what makes this dish better than another, even though they may be made of similar or the same ingredients. I want to understand the hard work that is put into the food I'm eating so I can fully appreciate what is set in front of me. Perhaps it's the result of the countless occasions my mom complained that I didn't appreciate her cooking because I couldn't finish the food she made or didn't feel like eating it.

To me, food goes beyond it's appearance, taste, and nutritional value. Food is not only a big part of culture but what we eat and how we feel about food tells a lot about us as an individual. So tomorrow I will begin a more serious journey on exploring food on another level. Until it is complete, I will not know if it will answer the question of why I want to attend cooking school or if my burning desire to attend culinary school will diminish.
